Because we build large-scale extensions over two storeys or more, they often fall outside the parameters of permitted development and require planning permission. Any build that shares a wall with that of a neighbouring property may also be subject to conditions in the Party Wall Act 1996. Extensions must comply with all relevant parts of the current UK Building Regulations, such as Part B for fire safety, Part G for sanitation and Part P for electrical safety.
